Human Sexuality & The Christian Church

This course will introduce the range and complexity of the Bible’s approach(es) to sex and relationships, surveying key texts around issues such as the creation and reproduction of gender norms, sex work, sexual violence, and same-sex relationships. The course will, on the one hand, seek to help you situate the Bible’s approach to such issues within its original historical milieu and, on the other, will use contemporary academic discourse on sexuality to enable you to reflect critically on the way the Bible is deployed in contemporary discussions around these issues. Each weekly class will focus on a particular theme related to human sexuality throughout the Bible as a whole while understanding sexuality through psychological and sociological lenses. Each week, we will also cover ways of care of congregations and communities relevant to the issue of Human Sexuality.
