World Christianity

Scholars employ various terminologies to describe World Christianity, such as ‘Global Christianity’ (Philip Jenkins) or ‘World Christianity’ (Lamin Sanneh). Lamin Sanneh has argued that ‘Global Christianity’ perpetuates the idea of exportation and imposition of European culturally informed Christianity through economic globalization and colonization. This course is an exploration of Christianity’s story with a primary focus on the processes of cross-cultural transmission and the critical elements that have defined the experience and expression of the faith in successive heartlands. Specific contexts will be used as case studies with an interdisciplinary approach.
