In this course, students will analyze and exegete the Hebrew text of the book of Kings with special attention to Hebrew language, philology and textual criticism. Topics will include the nature of prophecy in Israel and the ancient Near East, the shape of the so-called Deuteronomistic History and the various theories concerning its origination, structure and redaction, the rise and fall of Solomon, the prophetic ministries of Elijah, Elisha, Huldah and Micaiah, the role of anonymous prophets, and the fall of the Northern and Southern Kingdoms. Hebrew language is prerequisite.
