Without a doubt, a congregation’s greatest resource for realizing its mission and ministries, within and beyond the church, is its membership. In this course, led by Dr. Eugenia Freiburger, nationally-recognized expert in lay mobilization, participants will learn ways and means for developing and mobilizing lay leaders in the congregation. Learn how your church can develop persons within congregations for leadership roles and ministry functions. Issues of vocational Christian calling, spiritual gifts, the mission of the church, and the role of laypersons in ministry will be examined. Participants will learn practical strategies for developing effective lay ministries in their congregations.
This course is part of a series (“Contemporary Readings Series”) for persons interested in deepening their understanding of contemporary issues in Christian Education. Through selected readings in the literature, studies, and writings of contemporary writers and researchers in the field of Christian Education, participants will review current topics and trends that impact and inform ministry practice. This year’s focus is on the subject of “formation,” a popular phrase that has almost replaced “education” as an approach to educating in faith in congregations. It’s a concept many use, but few may really understand. .

This program is for congregational educators—lay teachers, pastors, teaching staff, program staff who want to be more effective in their teaching. This is a three day educational workshop for personal and professional development in the area of teaching and learning in the congregational context.
Participants will be introduced to seven concepts (“big ideas”) about teaching and learning that will form a framework for new ways to approach teaching and learning in work and ministry
